The Bottega Veneta Arco bag is wonderfully oversized, so we imagine all the ridiculous large things we can squeeze into it
To the brim
The people who say size doesn't matter have never carried a minaudière shopping. While the gargantuan volume of Bottega Veneta's Arco bag — named after Arco della Pace, the neoclassical arch in the heart of Milan which served as backdrop to Daniel Lee's debut for the brand back in February — isn't the most impressive part of carrier, it was the reason why I stopped browsing the contents of my email to discover more about the brand's early pre-fall drop in the first place.
The real showstopper was the fact that Arco features a deconstructed, orthogonal weave — a marked departure from the house's standard intrecciato. Over 100 pieces of French calf leather are bonded with suede, leaving the interior raw and unlined to show off the couture construction. It's precise, inside and out. Non-woven Arcos are on the table too. Soft crocodile and Palmellato (Bottega's calf leather with a grainy finish) are options for those in favour of texture.
Though available in four sizes (neither stray from natural leather hues) the largest, aka the Arco 75, stoked our imaginative fire. What would we carry in it when the DHL man shows up with our order from Milan? We've got some wild ideas...
1. An air purifier
Because fresh air is a (cumbersome) luxury.
2. An OTT ballgown
Because one should always be ready for a twirl with Prince Charming.
3. The entire contents of my fridge
Because you never know when you need a homemade salad, as opposed to an overpriced toss from Salad Stop.
4. A pillow
Because nap time is anytime. Don't tell my boss.
5. My mother
Because emotional support is fuel for the soul.
