Fanny packs be gone

The bum bag — or fanny pack slash waist pouch — is one of the most divisive accessories by far. While the adage 'one man's meat is another man's poison' sums up the general sentiment, ambivalence on the other hand you'd be hard pressed to find. That being said, here's a first world problem not too hard to imagine: Much like a Tinder match you're less than lukewarm about, you adore the bum bag's forthright practicality, but everything else about it violates your (sartorial) sensibilities.

With fashion's continued riff off sportswear and utility, consider the SS18 flight bag its strongest contender. It is rectangular in shape, non-offensive as far as form is concerned. It has a zippered compartment or two, handy for easy access and storing possessions niftily. It is meant to be slung across the body, ticking off the hands-free prerequisite. The long and short of it? The flight bag was designed to function with minimal bells and whistles, just like a fanny pack but genetically superior.

Names like Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Prada have (re) inducted it into their upcoming summer repertoires — introducing an oversized version and giving it flair with comic-inspired artwork respectively — served on a silver platter to the subset who harbour a love/hate relationship with the former. And we dare to wager, there's a whole lot of you out there.
