Hair accoutrements

Tired of putting on the same old accessories? This SS16, your crown gets the limelight

If you've been looking for a new statement accessory, look no further than the hair accoutrements presented at the spring/summer 2016 runways. Flower crowns, headbands, tiaras — you name it, they have it. No longer just a hair accessory to complete your beauty look, the headpiece replaces necklaces, bracelets, bags and shoes as the new IT accessory.

Interpretations were aplenty on the runways of Elie Saab, Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton. For the unbashfully girly, choose ornate flower and fauna crowns in metal work from Dolce & Gabbana, Rodarte and Alice + Olivia. Not too keen on the gilded finish? Then turn to Gucci's pearl beaded headband.

But the real crowning glory goes to Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and Chanel, creating badass crowns for the rebellious rule breaker. As proven at Saint Laurent, tiaras aren't just made for beauty queens. Louis Vuitton, on the other hand, sent models down the runway adorned with headgear inspired by Japanese anime and the Tron Legacy. For something modern and edgy, Miu Miu has got you covered with spiky headbands in red, white, black, silver or gold — with or without diamantes — in the option of plastic or metal. And then there is Chanel where two headbands are better than one.
