Rimowa's first eyewear collection marks the brand's big step out of the luggage mould
We should have known. Rimowa's recent collab with Garrett Leight was hinting at something huge for the prestigious German luggage brand, which brings us to this piece of news. After 120 years of building iconic aluminium suitcases sought after by fashion people and well, other people, Rimowa launches its first eyewear collection.
It marks the dawn of a new age, where we set our sights on the future ahead. As the world continues to evolve in becoming more efficient, Rimowa believes that it should pursue these developments by adapting their travel tools and becoming the new face of functional luxury. After all, rocking a pair of shades can easily be done even when you're not shuttling between borders.
The new eyewear collection will feature two unisex sunglass lines, Rimowa Bridge and Rimowa Rim. The lightweight frames can be colour-coordinated with your favourite aluminium suitcases for the complete look, while still being able to "withstand the rigours of travel", as they come with a protective pouch and hardwearing details. Choose from shapes like aviator, square, and pantos. Much like its suitcase ethos, which is inspired by aircraft fuselage, the lightweight frames with classic aviation styles are a nod to the brand's long history of designing premium luggages. Surely, the brand knows a thing or two about incorporating state-of-the-art lightweight materials into its products, so we can say we're in good hands when it comes to the ergonomics of this all-new eyewear line.
Rimowa Eyewear will launch with the Rimowa Bridge sunglasses (SGD $480-550 for polarized versions), Rimowa Rim sunglasses (SGD $450) available from July 9th, 2020, at selected Rimowa stores worldwide and online.
