Nike unveils a new, lightweight material made from recycled leather
Green kicks
In recent years we’ve seen the world's largest clothing companies take a step in the direction of sustainable fashion. In the realm of sneakers, Nike's latest endeavour is the introduction of Flyleather — a lightweight, highly durable material that's more environmentally friendly than its predecessors.
Manufactured from more than 50% recycled leather fibre, the production process for the Tennis Classic — the first model to be fashioned from Flyleather — requires 90% less water, and reduces carbon footprint by 80%. The result is a sneaker far suprerior; boasting a lighter body that is five times more durable than its full-grain leather counterparts.
If your Stan Smiths have seen better days, why not consider a pair that can also help save the Earth?
