New Balance raises the bar with the 247 sneaker
Sights set high
Like fashion collections, sneakers too have their ups and downs. Trends, if you will. The clean-cut court shoe — its most ubiquitous kind, the Stan Smith — ruled the early '10s, but 2017 is all about the sock. Balenciaga's Speed Trainer needs no introduction, Dior Homme's B21 just landed, and New Balance's 247 welcomes a higher cut by way of a knit collar.
Released for the winter season, the 247 Mid (unlike its sleeker sock counterparts) is heavyset; rope laces and a rubber lug outsole lends the shoe its solid stature. The collection sees six colourways for men, imbued with well-loved shades of tan, orange and black on black, as well grey and navy, with black and grey for women set apart by a white, speckled outsole.
