In the age of practicality, very few labels can preach fashion over function. Céline's new footwear range demands for an exception

Just this morning, we made a rookie fashion mistake. Despite the looming grey skies and against our better judgement, we opted to wear our yellow Céline ballerinas to work. Anyone who has ever rested their feet in a pair won't blame us though — they're literally the most comfortable flats in our shoe closet. As the manic downpour threatened to sink our creamy Nappa lambskin in rainwater the moment we got out of the train station, we gunned for the office praying to the Gods to keep our investment safe. Alas, the higher power forsook us.

We made a mistake. But regrets, there are none. Partially because we've just been given a free pass to go shopping. The other part has something to do with Céline's mighty fine footwear collection, out now. Not a white elephant in the house, the iconic Home slipper, Night Out pump, Delivery sneaker, Elliptic boot and Planet boot have been doused in fresh coat of paint they're calling 'Optic White'. Hence the Scotchguard reference.

In terms of quality, it's business as usual — Home is crafted to feel like second skin; Delivery boasts a new combination of materials comprising calfskin, suede and other fabrics; and Planet's seamless rubber construction (modelled after the Cosmonaut boot) was achieved via a vulcanized mounting technique.

The aforementioned Céline shoes are available at the Céline boutique at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
