Asics ties up with Beams and Mita Sneakers on a Sukajan-inspired sneaker
It was just a couple of seasons ago that the jacket to own was the Sukajan, its brief revival largely due to Louis Vuitton parlaying the storied outerwear into a runway hit during men's spring/summer 2016. But before the French maison reissued the jacket of Japanese origins, its birth can be traced back to the Yokosuka region located Southeast of Japan, circa World War II.
The collaboration in question sees three contemporary Japanese names — Asics Tiger, clothing retailer Beams and multi-label trainer store Mita Sneakers — update the former's Gel-Lyte III sneaker with iconic elements of the jacket; a nod to their roots. Details include a declaration of genesis by way of 'Japan' scrawled along the sides, an embroidered dragon motif upon the heel, and the shoe's upper reworked in velour.
Available at Star ThreeSixty and Limited Edt stores in Singapore.
