Young love: New celebrity couples and romantic weddings that you might have missed in 2018
Love is blindness
Relationship rumours between Hollywood's boy wonder Timothée Chalamet and Chanel muse Lily Rose Depp first swirled in early October after they were spotted being cuddly in New York City. The news was confirmed when the city's insatiable paparazzi photographed them smooching after a date night at Lower East Side fried chicken spot Blue Ribbon Chicken. Depp, 19 and Chalamet, 22, met on the set of Netflix's Shakespearean adaptation The King (2019). While they have yet to make their official red carpet debut as a couple, their low-key normcore style and effortless chemistry have set them out to be young Hollywood's power couple du jour. Let's just hope it doesn't burn bright and fizzle fast.
One is a 47-year-old self-made billionaire, CEO of an electric automobile company and a space tech firm while the other is a 30-year-old electro-pop singer-songwriter. This has to be 2018's oddest pairing. Grimes and Elon Musk met on Twitter as one does naturally these days, bonding over a macabre joke about robots one day taking over the world and torturing those who don't embrace artificial intelligence. They stunned the world when they made their relationship official on the hallowed MET Gala red carpet. Things soon turned sour and the pair clashed because of Musk's union policies and intense work ethic. When rapper Azealia Banks publicly called the pair out for bailing on her and taking acid instead, the relationship took a dive and they unfollowed each other on Twitter. In October, however, they were spotted chilling at a pumping patch. Would this on-again-off-again relationship go the distance — much like Musk's newly launched high-speed tunnel Loop — in 2019?
Actor, bad boy and unlikely menswear icon Shia LaBeouf split with his wife, fellow actress Mia Goth this year amidst cheating rumours. He quickly moved on to date Tahliah Debrett Barnett, a.k.a. English singer-songwriter FKA Twigs. They met on the set of Honey Boy, a film that is based on LaBeouf's dysfunctional relationship with his father. Twigs was previously engaged to actor Robert Pattinson before they parted ways in 2017. This budding romance was reportedly confirmed when a reporter buzzed Twig's intercom at her London home, to which Twigs replied: "We're having a nice time." Based on their brazen PDA and matching outfits, we're guessing they're having a helluva good time.
The former Disney Channel star and Hungarian supermodel first teased their relationship with a since-deleted photo at the World Cup in June this year. Their charming courtship was cemented in November when Sprouse brought Shake Shack burgers in a brown takeaway paper bag to the Victoria's Secret Show, just so his bae could pig out after weeks of prep and training. Love is in the air for the Sprouse twins at the moment; his brother Cole Sprouse is rumoured to be dating his Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart. Now, it remains to be seen if they can turn their winning streak into formidable careers in Hollywood.
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are in love. The whole world knows it now because they've been photographed making out at parks, bars, sporting events and basically every time they step out together in public. Let's not forget that Bieber has occasionally broken down in tears as well, presumably from the pressures of being a young married man, considering the duo got married only in September without a prenup to boot. In November, Hailey changed her last name on Instagram to Bieber and has reportedly trademarked it. Wondering what Bieber's former beau Selena Gomez thinks of all this? Nothing. Her lips are sealed until she can process the heartbreak through another chart-topping single.
Besides Kevin, the Jonas brothers are known to be players. Their douchey reputation has since been put to bed for the better this year with Nick's highly publicised wedding to crossover Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra and Joe's engagement to Game of Thrones' Sansa Stark herself, English actress Sophie Turner. Dating since 2016, the couple made their relationship Instagram official early this year before Joe proposed with a pear-cut diamond ring in October. It'll be hard to top Nick's over-the-top matrimonial ceremonies in India though. Northhampton's grey skies and sludgy cuisine aren't exactly a honeymooners' destination.
While his brother Jared is busy brokering peace in the Middle East, venture capitalist Joshua Kushner quietly tied the knot with supermodel and activist Karlie Kloss in October. Their relationship was kept private for most of the six years they have been together. Only a single photo of the engagement ring has been posted on Kloss's Instagram. Kloss has reportedly converted to Judaism similar to her sister-in-law Ivanka Trump. Apparently, the newly married couple share a lot of the same liberal values. Considering Kloss's work in women's education, we're expecting awkward dinner table conversation this Christmas when Jared and his father-in-law turn up.
