When in Singapore: Miroslava Duma at Marina Bay Sands
On top of the world
A trip to Singapore isn’t complete without visiting the iconic Marina Bay Sands; one of the most photographed buildings in the world
It used to be that visitors to the Lion City would hit up a hawker centre for some fried kway teow and cool down with a refreshing ice kacang before mingling with the locals at the Singapore Night Safari. While those pit stops still remain high on every visitor's agenda, there's a new attraction that now rules the roost: a visit to Marina Bay Sands.
Captured on cameras and shared on smartphones from Sydney to San Francisco, when people think of 'MBS' (we Singaporeans love our acronyms), they picture a boat-like structure (complete with a breathtaking infinity pool) perched high across three towering buildings. But that, my friends, is just the hotel side.
Situated by the bay and blessed with spectacular views of the Singapore skyline, even from the ground level, is The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Since opening its doors in 2010, the Shoppes has steadily grown year-on-year and now boasts the largest collection of luxury labels under one roof in the entire region. With more than 170 premium brands presented in the form of opulent flagships — including 15 duplexes and triplexes — it is the veritable one-stop shopping destination in Southeast Asia with an offering spanning women's collections, bespoke menswear, children's labels and luxury watch and jewellery brands.
Hosted by the good folk at MBS, Miroslava Duma was treated to a VIP tour of the property that included visits to the Louis Vuitton maison, Baby Dior boutique (the first and only in Southeast Asia), Burberry store, Gucci duplex, and the Prada triplex. After an afternoon of shopping, Duma recharged her batteries with high tea at TWG Tea before catching a lift to the 57th floor of the hotel to take in the panoramic views of the city (and beyond) at the Sands Skypark.
