Things to do this weekend: Flock at the Nest, ArtScience on Scream, and more
It's been quite a while since Phase 2 was introduced — and so, more and more of our favourite eateries, bars, and attractions have opened up their doors to customers. With that being said, bigger events still remain on hold. Not to fret though. This week, enjoy an intimate live music showcase, get Halloween-ready with horror films, and more.
MUSIC | Flock at the Nest
Kick off your weekend vibing to great tunes with Flock at the Nest, a virtual music showcase. Launched by 24OWLS, the team behind five editions of Laneway Festival Singapore, the inaugural programme opens the stage for musicians and artistes to present their original compositions live. Getting the ball rolling with the first show — a 60-minute digital concert due to pandemic restrictions — are homegrown musicians Benjamin Kheng, lewloh and Marian Carmel. Enjoy songs from the artistes and get to know them better as they share different sides of their artistry during the showcase.
Happening on 9 October. Click here to learn more about the event and to get your tickets.
HORROR | ArtScience on Scream
October signals Halloween and all things horror, and the ArtScience Museum is celebrating that with ArtScience On Scream: a horror-version of their ArtScience on Screen programme. Catch limited screenings of the digitally restored The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the first horror-film ever made, as the film celebrates its 100th anniversary. Have a taste for something more unnerving and potent? Try the specially curated series of David Lynch short films, where you'll witness Caligarian expressionism soaked in nightmarish surrealism.
Screenings for both films will take place from 10 October to 6 November. Click here to learn more.
EXPLORE | Pocket Gardens Surprise
Think you knew every nook and cranny of the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay? Well, the Pocket Gardens Surprise programme might just prove you wrong. Discover the insides and outs of the Flower Dome with little gardens surprises. These mini garden displays are switched fortnightly with varying themes to bring to you fresh perspectives of the garden. This week, discover an urban oasis filled with colourful blooms, or delve into the plant library where you can not only learn more about plants, but also get tips on how to use them to brighten up indoor spaces.
An Urban Oasis will take place from 5 October to 1 November. The Plant Library will take place on 12 October to 8 November. Click here for more information.
POETRY | Poetry under the Southern Bough
After months of virtual performances, Poetry Under the Southern Bough will be one of the first shows taking place in front of a live audience. The multi-disciplinary performance will see a blend of dance, acting, opera and music, performed through the dreamscapes of 20 selected poems from A Dream Under The Southern Bough written by Ming Dynasty playwright, Tang Xianzu. The live audience seating is capped at 50 for the 45-minute show, and a digital live stream is available for those who wish to watch the performance from the comforts of their own home.
Happening on 10 October, in two sessions. Click through to get your tickets.
RELAX | Yoga Vibes & Wellness Day
With everything ongoing in the world, it's important to take a break and reconnect your mind, body and soul. Organised by the Singapore Sports Hub, immerse yourself in a full day of outdoor yoga sessions ranging from beginner flows, to core yoga, to Vinyasa and sunset yoga.
