Things to do this weekend: Baybeats Online, The Front Row, and more

Here comes the weekend

It's been quite a while since Phase 2 was introduced — and so, more and more of our favourite eateries, bars, and attractions have opened up their doors to customers. With that being said, bigger events still remain on hold. Not to fret though. For this week, attend Baybeats Online, watch an online runway show, and plenty more.

Music | Baybeats Online

Singapore's premiere local music festival, Baybeats, has adapted to the new normal this year. In lieu of its live show which has been postponed to November, you can experience bite-sized incremenets through Baybeats Online. Think stripped-down sets performed by local musicians. Home audiences can explore up to five different segments including Baybeats Unplugged, In Bead with Baybeats, Chapalang Sessions, Observation Deck, and #BaybeatsThrowback. They will also showcase a range of pre-recorded and live-streamed sessions as well as panel discussions and Q&A's with musicians and producers in the local scene.

Fashion | The Front Row

The show must go on. The first of its kind, The Front Row is an online virtual fashion show held from 20 to 29 August. Over the course of these ten days, 21 local brands and nine Asian labels will get to showcase their latest collections virtually. It also allows guests to be part of the show, join live interviews, take part in workshops, and also buy pieces directly from the brands they fancy. Plus, you don't have to worry about what you're wearing to the show now that it's online.

Entertainment | DC FanDome

Superhero fans unite! Warner Bros. is bringing the heat with their latest endeavour, #DCFanDome. Set to go live for 24 hours on 22 August, the mega online event is set to showcase the biggest movies, TV shows, and comics set to be released over the next few years. The best part? You can enjoy all of this for free. Some teasers you can look forward to: Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman, the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman 1984, and the recently confirmed Snyder Cut of Justice League.

Things to do | Straits Records Pop Up

Straits Records needs no introduction. Since 1995, Straits Records has been at the forefront of the Singaporean music scene, championing regional and local music for over two decades. In August, they've teamed up with The Substation to have their very own pop up store. Browse through an extensive catalog of vinyl records, band merch, and classic CDs with a couple of your music junkie friends to show some love to this beloved local business.

Comedy | Laugh with Discover

Have the chuckles been coming far and few inbetween during COVID-19? We might have just the fix. Laugh with Discover is bringing you an online comedy show, featuring some of Singapore’s best stand-up comedians. Look forward to non-stop laughter, witty comebacks and over-the-top stories with comedians like Jinx Neo, Rishi Budhrani, Jacky Ng, Sam See and many others. Happening on 23 August, tickets go at $10.90. The cherry on top: Discover is giving away five dollars worth of islandwide delivery Chimichanga vouchers with every ticket purchase to make sure you're well fed during your laughing session.
