5 things to do this weekend: 6 - 8 July
FILM | TheoryFILM#4, Futurisms & Sonic Fictions: Kodwo Eshun x Akomfrah
In a private screening of John Akomfrah's film, The Last Angel of History (1996) and Kodwo Eshun's More Brilliant Than the Sun (1988), the session will explore possibilities of technology, science, aliens and post-humanity in a deliberately disorienting fashion. Sonic artists Bani Haykal and Cheryl Plays Computer will also perform a 30-minute experimental DJ set to translate their own take of sonic futurism.
ART | On An Ending Note
Teo Huey Ling and Chen Ziwei will showcase their works, works-in-progress and experimentation done through their one-year residency at Telok Kurau Studios. Teo will exhibit her drawings, contemporary ceramics and an art installation while Chen will explore the elemental nature within our everyday spaces and our relation towards them in a shared venue of art and interpretation.
FILM | Pink Screen at The Projector
As we enter into the month of pink with the 10th edition of Pink Dot happening on 21 July, The Projector kicks things off with a curation of stories for the LGBTQ community. In a thoughtful mix of drama, romance and documentaries, the critically acclaimed French drama film, 120 Beats per Minute (2017) about homosexuality and the AIDS epidemic set in 1990s France will be shown. The programme will also screen Kiki (2016), God's Own Country (2017) and Tomboy (2011).
PARTY | Urban Ventures X Street Party
The first carbon-neutral street activation will see a flood of activities including yoga on the streets and Capoeira street performances. An underground market, artisans market and numerous food and beverage stalls will line the roads along with pulsing music from the DJ sets and live performances.
MUSIC | DEBUT - Buns 'N' Roses
The first of a new weekly series featuring killer indie, alt, hard, psychedelic rock and old school tunes, DJs KiDG and Mad Jester play your favourite songs from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pet Shop Boys, The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys with new flavour and excitement.
