5 things to do this weekend: 2 - 4 March
FESTIVAL | Francophonie Festival 2018
Parlez-vous Français? Even if you don't, Francophiles can still watch films and attend talks from individuals such as French journalist Florence Aubenas, who was held hostage in Iraq for five months in 2005. For starters, Canadian cartoonist Guy Delisle will show his journalistic cartoons in an exhibition and talk about his work processes.
ART | Javanese Batik In Europe and Africa
Turns out there's more to batik than just patterns on your grandmother's dress. Helmed by anthropologist and museum curator Maria Wronska-Friend, this lecture will delve into how this traditional print has played a big role in the African textile tradition and influenced 19th century European artists and designers.
MUSIC | Kilo Lounge Presents Jennifer Cardini (GER) and Jonathan Kusama
We love it when we see a female DJ dominating the decks. With her latest track 'August In Paris' in 2016, look out for French DJ Jennifer Cardini spinning European EDM sounds. Joining her during the event will be Singapore/Jakarta-based DJ Jonathan Kusama.
ART | Meet The Magazines
Organised by BooksActually, six indie magazines from Malaysia and Singapore — Musotrees Magazine, Mynah Magazine, STAPLE Magazine, SAND Magazine, The Maker Journal and The Ideology — will share how indie magazines survive in the current publishing climate. Pick up some merchandise as well.
COMEDY | RuPaul's Drag Race Kim Chi & Naomi Smalls with Comedy Queen and Host Lady Bunny
Sashay and "shantay" with two finalists from RuPaul's Drag Race Season Eight, Kim Chi and Naomi Smalls. This iconic duo will bring on the sass, comedy and lip-syncing. Drag queen Lady Bunny, who kick-started her career alongside RuPaul, will guest-star in this performance.
