How to take a few pieces of the royal wedding back with you
Hear ye, hear ye
We confess: We're obsessed with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. While it's not quite a rags-to-riches story, it does give some of us hope that even though you've once vacationed in London and snapped a photo of yourself posing in front of the Buckingham Palace, it just might happen — one day. But for obvious reasons, us peasants can only dream of attending the festivities. The next best thing? Overloading on royal wedding memorabilia, of course. Fortnum & Mason — the royal family's grocer themselves — has recently launched a covetable range of tableware to commemorate the wedding. Having two royal warrants from Queen Elizabeth II and The Prince of Wales each, the department store spared no expense in making sure that its fine bone china is of top quality. It's hand-decorated in Stoke-on-Trent (known in the pottery circles) together with ceramic designer William Edwards, with platinum and 22-carat gold motifs of the couple's initials and crowns on items like tea sets, plates and coasters.
The collection is also created in Eau de Nil, a pale greenish colour that's signature to Fortnum & Mason. This joins the existing line of royal wedding memorabilia from elsewhere, such as tea towels, mugs, placemats, and even life-sized standees of the couple. The Queen has commissioned an official line by The Royal Collection shop as well, consisting of china, decorations and biscuits. With tableware from Fortnum & Mason, what good is a tea set without some tea in it? Adding to the collection is the Wedding Bouquet Blend tea, blending mint from the birthplaces of the Prince and Markle (England and America) with Jasmine green tea and rose petals.
If you get the opportunity to visit London in May, visitors of the store's Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon can experience afternoon tea sessions to honour the royal wedding throughout the month. Expect Fortnum & Mason's Blanc de Blanc champagne and canapés such as American lobster, Armagnac cream cheese and caviar, and smoked salmon sandwiches. Patisserie like champagne fraises de bois, passionfruit curd and coconut cheesecake, and a small cake version of the actual wedding cake flavour, lemon and elderflower. To top it off, the diners will be able to taste the Wedding Bouquet Blend and take some back with them.
