International Women's Day in Singapore: Inspiring talks, workshops, and dinners to celebrate being female
Panel discussions and live art workshops will spark an evening of inspired conversation at co-working space WeWork's Suntec flagship on 8 March. Hear from locally renowned female creators and entrepreneurs such as fashion designer Lisa Von Tang and DJ-designer Ginette Chittick and StyleTheory's Raena Lim, who will be sharing their stories of success. There'll also be portrait sittings by illustration collective Band of Doodlers and fabulous bouquet arrangements by Skinny Blossom.
On 7 and 8 March, Publico Ristorante will be hosting an 8 Hands Super Sheroes dinner that features four of the top female leaders in Singapore's culinary and bartending scene. The stellar line-up includes Symphony Loo (Campari brand ambassador for Southeast Asia), Heidi Flanagan (chef de cuisine at Origin Grill & Bar, Shangri-La Hotel Singapore), Sujatha Asokan (Executive Chef at The Garage) and Bettina Arguelles (executive chef at Publico Ristorante). Details of the menu have not been disclosed, but expect three Italian-fusion dishes, a surprise dessert and two cocktails in line with this year's theme for International Women's Day, #BalanceForBetter.
SPRMRKT will shine a light on Embassy Restaurant and its two female head chefs, Kimsan Sok and Kimsan Pol, who have both been credited for reviving Khmer gastronomy. On 8 and 9 March, an all-female team will present a seven-course gastronomic dinner menu that features drool-worthy dishes including steamed scallops with locally-grown La Plantation Kampot green peppercorn, mushrooms and roselle sauce, and kromaothorng — a crispy green glutinous rice flack that's stuffed with young coconut flesh, banana, passion fruit and caramel ice-cream that's made with toothsome Sovannak granulated palm sugar.
Speciality liquor purveyor EC Proof will be hosting a women-only whiskey tasting session at their premises on the hip Hong Kong Street. A perfect way to kick off ladies' night — enjoy a welcome drink then be immersed in the decadent world of spirits and expand your palate. The sitdown is cleverly priced at 76.5% of the usual price to reflect the gender wage gap. While the night is still young, pop over to one of the many cool eateries on the avenue to celebrate: Bacchanalia Kitchen, FOC and Amo.
