Independent arts space I_S_L_A_N_D_S is ending its run with a group show of risograph prints by 28 creatives
Curtain call
One of Singapore's most unlikely independent art spaces is coming to an end next month. The much-beloved I_S_L_A_N_D_S will bid adieu to its current space on the 3rd-floor passageway linking Peninsula and Excelsior Shopping Centre with a risograph exhibition in collaboration with local print and publishing studio Knuckles & Notch.
For those unfamiliar with this printing process, think of the risograph as a crossbreed between a conventional photocopier and a laser printer. Creating one layer at a time in lurid colours, the stencil duplicator enables super-fast, high-volume printing with minimal environmental impact.
Entitled 'Fantasy Island', the group show brings together 28 of Knuckles & Notch's young friends and creative collaborators. The exhibition also features a selection of archival wares from the studio that celebrates the full breadth of self-published material and DIY print culture.
If you ever thought of collecting art or adding some colour to your drab BTO flat, this is your chance to get your filthy hands on some fresh-out-of-the-oven risograph prints by young Singaporean artists. Prints are limited and up for grabs during the exhibition's vernissage on 26 October, starting at 7pm. Only cash payments are accepted so bring a fat wallet cause ain't nobody got time for your AMEX black card.
According to its co-founder Pey Chuan, I_S_L_A_N_D_S might possibly take the form of temporary activations in the near future so watch this space for more updates.
