Esquire Neighbourhood 2020: Events, speakers, and performances to know
Esquire Neighbourhood is set to happen once again this November — albeit in light of this year's circumstances, entirely virtually. Every year, Esquire Neighbourhood is as an umbrella event for a series of activities and experiences, bringing people together and igniting conversations amidst creative individuals alike. The lineup for 2020 includes the likes of popular celebrity names such as Harry Shum Jr. and Lauv, to highly respected industrial folk such as Feng Chen Wang, the designer behind the acclaimed menswear label. Below, we highlight some of the most highly-anticipated events to look forward to over the three-day course from 19-22 Nov.
Homegrown crooner Charlie Lim will be performing an exclusive acoustic session, to kick off Esquire Neighbourhood 2020.
Actors and singers alike — from American actor Harry Shum Jr. to chart-topping Lauv and actor and martial artist Lewis Tan, will be discussing the challenges of their craft, the work that they do (especially amidst the pandemic), and how their identities are influenced by their cultural surroundings.
Three major conversation topics will be the focus for the event this year, with full fledged panels of guest speakers who will have valuable insights into the topics at hand.
Oceans In Crisis: Innovation As Solution
Oceans In Crisis: Innovation As Solution will explore the crises that our oceans face in light of plastic pollution and global warming. The panel will include singer-songwriter Cody Simpson who also stands as the UNDP Ocean Advocate, Cyrill Gutsch, the founder and CEO of Parley for the Oceans, George Bullard who is a world record-breaking explorer, and Ben Lecomte, a marathon athlete who swap over 330 nautical miles through the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to bring attention to the amount of plastic in the ocean.
Photography in the Age of Instagram
Photography in the Age of Instagram considers the role of a professional photographer and the accompanying art form, in the era of Instagram and visually reliant modes of social media. The panel will feature the likes of Lee Yik Keat, a self-taught photographer based in Singapore, Margaret Zhang who is a filmmaker, photographer, consultant and writer who has worked for the likes of Gucci and Chanel, and Tom Blachford who specialises in interior and architectural photography.
Menswear Now: Fashion For 2020 And Beyond
Menswear Now: Fashion For 2020 And Beyond explores changing fashion trends, the possible loss of the suit, and designers' creative processes in the midst of the pandemic and the era of #WFH. Designer Feng Chen Wang, Next In Fashion runner-up Daniel w. Fletcher and Bode's founder Emily Adams Bode will be on the panel list.
Workshops & Experiences
A whole other list of events and activities have also been prepared, from writing workshops to wine masterclasses and even dedicated test drives for the all-new Volkswagen Golf R-Line.
