5 things to do this weekend: 31 August - 2 September
SHOPPING | MAAD: Market of Artists and Designers
MAAD only features original, one-of-a-kind works from artists and designers, from handmade crafts such as ceramics, artworks and accessories to literature. You can look forward to quirky surprises like temporary tattoos by fashion designer CF, badges of fantasy creatures created by Lasalle students Eko and Phi, and impressions of natural leaves on clay by local ceramic artist Davy Young.
PARTY | Straight Outta Golden Mile
Hip-hop, funk, jazz and afrobeat are set to bring the house down at this block party. As Golden Mile Complex goes en-boc, it might be a good idea to visit Golden Mile Tower before it bites the dust too. Taking place at its iconic rooftop carpark, Straight Outta Golden Mile features an exciting line-up including MC SWTLKR, MZA and DJ Paulsilver.
FILM | 26th Israel Film Festival
The Israeli film festival opens with a black comedy film Longing about a middle-aged bachelor that discovers an ex-girlfriend gave birth to his son 20 years ago, and he finds himself evaluating his entire life. Other films on the programme touch on topics as diverse as murder, espionage, war and secret romantic entanglements.
DANCE | Ballet under the Stars
Organised by Singapore Dance Theatre, this year's Ballet under the Stars marks the return of Singapore's most prominent outdoor dance event. Neo-classical works George Balanchine's The Four Temperaments, François Klaus' Midnight Waltzes, and Edwaard Liang's 13th Heaven will be performed this weekend. Take in the spectacle by chilling on picnic mats with finger food and a glass of rosé.
