The Swedish EDM-pop princess returns with Lady Wood, her second album made of raw candour and girl balls
Declaring her post on the feminist side is a big deal for Lo. "In Sweden, it's almost shameful to say you're not [a feminist]. Here [in US], it seems like a very loaded thing to say," the 29-year-old singer said in an interview, "I guess I'm just going to scream it from the rooftops." And if her explicit logo and her bare-it-all Instagram posts don't do it, her second album Lady Wood — which refers to the female version of a hard-on — immensely makes up for it. Following her multi-platinum debut with Queen of the Clouds, the second synth-pop hovers as deliciously dark, as Lo croons about being "under the influence" in the Wiz Khalifa-featuring Influence, or being "dirty on the inside" in the hazy Lady Wood, while the catchy hit single Cool Girl has Lo rolling her eyes at boys and playing a love game where no labels are required. Along with each track, Lo's chapters unfold and a story line submerges, pieced together in the singer's freshly released short film.
It's hard to think of Tove Lo without her perennial bed hair and nonchalant air. She is, then again, the ultimate epitome of a cool girl — below, see the five times Lo proved why she is.
