Toppings of Ice Cream Sundays: Buro. Singapore Poolside Playlist #200
As one of the folks involved in Ice Cream Sundays, it goes without saying that Sunday is a special day for me. Often times, it's the one day of the week where I get to actually, actively relax and recharge for the week ahead. My idea of a perfect Sunday (with the exception of the little shindig we throw every few weeks) is an intimate hangout by the pool with a good group of friends. The sun is shining, there's music playing, and the beers are cold. To me, this playlist is what that sounds like.
I remember hearing "The Birds Rejoice" during Hunee's set at the old Great Escape. If I recall correctly, it was the second or third track he played and it set the stage for an incredible night of music. That show was probably one of my favourite musical experiences in Singapore to date, and the track has stuck with me ever since. 'Paciencia De Jo' is a lovely track by Bosq, one of my personal favourite producers. I had the immense pleasure of opening for him last year thanks to Orio at Fat Fish, which was definitely one of the coolest moments in my young DJ career.
Harry Wolfman's "Casillero" is a very nostalgic track for me, because I remember dropping it at the very first Ice Cream Sundays event! It's the definition of a feel-good track. There's something about the vocal that just feels right. Ebo Taylor's music is a regular part of my weekend listening and I picked "Aboa Kyirbin" from his 2018 album, Yen Ara. It blows my mind that this album was released last year — the guy is in his eighties and still killing it.
Finally, "Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song)" by one of my all-time favourite artists, and certainly one of my biggest musical influences, Otis Redding. There's never a bad time to put this one on, but Sunday by the pool is just about perfect.
