Tracks that you need to hear this week: Peggy Gou, Tame Impala, BTS and Sky Ferreira
Tame Impala has released new music for the first time in four years.
The Australian psych-rock band has released "Patience", just before they make their debut musical guest appearance on Saturday Night Live on 30 March alongside host Sandra Oh. The groovy chill-out track has been the first we've heard from frontman Kevin Parker and the boys in a long while since their 2015 uber-hit album Currents to be exact. Parker did, in fact, appear solo earlier on in the American variety show's season when he backed up Travis Scott. Parker is a pretty renowned producer in his own right and he has kept busy away from the public eye behind-the-scenes with collaborations with the likes of Lady Gaga and Mark Ronson. While there's no official release date for the new album, Tame Impala will be making the rounds on the international circuit this year including headlining mega-festivals Coachella and Lollapalooza.
Sky Ferreira has returned.
Following escalating tensions with her record label for the past few years, Ferreira has finally dropped the first single off her second album Masochism, "Downhill Lullaby". We've not heard much from Ferreira since she blew up the scene in 2013 with her debut Night Time, My Time. Dark and atmospheric — the track's reads and feels like a creepy Twin Peaks soundtrack, which sort of makes sense considering she made an appearance in one of its episodes back in 2017.
DJ Peggy Gou has dropped the lead single from her upcoming EP.
Gou has been a pretty busy woman this year. She has launched her own fashion label Kirin with the New Guards Group, which produces and distributes for streetwear brands such as Off-White and Heron Preston. She also recently teamed up with Ray-Ban to design a limited capsule of sunnies. This week, the Berlin-based Korean DJ announced that she will be releasing her debut EP Moment on 3 May through her own independent record label, Gudu Records. The lead single, "Starry Night", is a disco-fuelled anthem.
BTS has launched the trailer for their upcoming album.
BTS is arguably the biggest musical act in the world right now. Everything and anything the Korean supergroup does garners headlines, fills stadiums and sends fans screaming across the world. In advance of their next album Map of the Soul: Persona breaking the Internet on 12 April, they've teased with Persona, a rap-heavy trailer of band member RM spitting rhymes in a classroom wearing Louis Vuitton.
