Text: Mozart's Sister

Caila Thompson-Hannant (a.k.a. Mozart's Sister) shares some of her musical influences and what she's listening to right now

I thought I would choose a mixture of tracks from artists that have really influenced me over the last 10 years with what I have recently been into. Deerhoof was my favourite band when I was 19. I am still pretty blown away by how heavy, weird and uncompromising they are. I listen to more mainstream music now than I did back then, and for a while I thought bands like Deerhoof and their tracks like 'This Magnificent Bird Will Rise' were totally different from what was on the radio — but it's all about an energy that draws you in. Deerhoof has serious star power.

Mica Levi is my hero. She is a UK artist who makes orchestral movie soundtracks, like this track she did for the film, Jackie, called 'Lee Harvey Oswald'. She also does bedroom house music with Tirzah and plays in Micachu, a rock/pop band. I'm not sure how I discovered Basil Kirchin's Primitive London soundtrack but when I heard it, I knew it was seriously deep and twisted music. 'The Dice IS Cast' is one of his mellower tracks.
