Madonna's 'Madame X': Lead single, track list, release date and everything else you need to know about her new studio album
Madonna is back with new music. She's been cryptically posting teasers on IG since 2 April, but now, we've got all the official deets on her 14th studio album since 2015's Rebel Heart.
The album, Madame X features a secret agent persona with more than one identity.
By now, it's common knowledge that Madonna is the mother of reinvention when it comes to selling new material, perhaps only rivalled by Lady Gaga. From her hippy shambala days for Ray of Light (1998) to the early 2000's all-American schtick, she has mutated and morphed into desirable personas that reflected the mood of the moment.
This time, however, her latest album Madame X — which happens to be the name of her alter ago —takes on more than one face. Through a minute-long teaser that she released on her YouTube channel as well as several IG posts, she broke down the nature of its multiple personalities: "Madame X is a secret agent. Travelling around the world. Changing identities. Fighting for freedom. Bringing light to dark places."
She goes on to list a bunch of eclectic jobs, some of which would definitely be less than attractive on Jobstreet: "She is a cha-cha instructor. A professor. A head of state. A housekeeper. A equestrian. A prisoner. A student. A teacher. A nun. A cabaret singer. A saint. A prostitute."
The album is heavily influenced by Madonna's time in Lisbon, Portugal over the past few years.
"Lisbon is where my record was born," Madonna said in an official release. "I found my tribe there and a magical world of incredible musicians that reinforced my belief that music across the world is truly all connected and is the soul of the universe."
The lead single "Medellín" that's out now features handsome Colombian singer-songwriter Maluma.
Co-produced by Mirwais and capturing the spirit of Maluma's hometown, the mid-tempo track is easy on the ears with heavy Latin drumbeats. For those who think they might not be familiar with the Latin star's work, check out his sexy stylings in the chart-topper "Felices los 4" below.
The album features Quavo, Swae Lee and Anitta as well as producers Mike Dean and Diplo.
The album will consist of 13 tracks with the deluxe versions including an additional two, some of which will present Madonna singing in Portuguese and Spanish too.
