Livestreams and musical performances to catch online: Concerts, DJ sets, opera and more
The bright side to self-isolation and social distancing? Seeing the world's biggest names in music do their thing — and for free. While livestreams and pre-recorded shows are far from novel, we're now lapping up digital experiences like never before. But how else are we going to expand our boundaries in this time of confinement? Follow us down the rabbit hole below.
The Social Distancing Festival
Created by a theatre artist in Canada who had his musical cancelled for obvious reasons, the website is a place for artistes from anywhere in the world to showcase their cancelled productions and continue engaging with other artists. The site features submitted works (that meet some criteria) with links to livestreams on other platforms. There's a calendar of events and recommended artistes to follow.
The Metropolitan Opera
New York's Met Operais free-streaming a different opera nightly in its'Live in HD' series. Each performance is available for 23 hours, from 7.30pm EDT (that is 7.30am Singapore time) until 6.30pm (6.30am for us) the following day.
Vienna State Opera
A feast for the ears as well as the eyes, 'Live At Home' by the Vienna State Opera is where you can catch both its latest and archival performances. The streams are on set times — usually around midnight or 2am in our part of the world.
Royal Opera House

The clubs are closed but the shows must go on. Thanks to Covid-19, celebrity DJs have now taken their sets online.
DJ D-Nice is hosting a daily party called 'Homeschool at Club Quarantine' on Instagram Live, at 5am our time. Questlove from The Roots, inspired by D-Nice with his use of #dnicehomeschool presents Quest Lovers Rock: Sloppy Seconds, is also streaming live on YouTube (10am our time), while raising funds on Instagram for Food Hub, a non-profit that provides New York City students dependent on school meals who no longer have access to it due to Covid-19.
