Coachella Weekend 2 highlights: Kanye West's show-stopping Sunday Service, A$AP Rocky performs with Tame Imapala and other standout moments
Church is in session
Whether it was pure coincidence or a calculated decision, it was incredibly apt for Kanye West's debut "Sunday Service" performance to take place on a sunny Easter morning at Coachella. Dressed in purple pigment-dyed presumably Yeezy gear, Kanye and his riotous choir danced and belted out some remixed versions of old favourites such as "Ultralight Beam" as well as a couple of new material including "Water" in an almost tribal manner. The thirst for Kanye's upcoming album Yandhi is real.
Performing on 420 seemed a little on the nose for the psychedelic stylings of Australian rock band Tame Impala, but no one expected hip-hop star A$AP Rocky to show up unannounced in the middle of "Sundress".
Childish Gambino brought out zero guests during his performance on the first weekend, but this week, he finished his set with a massive pyrotechnic display along with his hit "Redbone" as well as a guest appearance by Chance the Rapper.
Dashing actor Idris Elba is better known as the leading people's choice for the next James Bond, but this weekend, he flexed his DJ muscle when he played a two-hour techno-house set under the cringey pseudonym "Big Driis".
The last time Will Smith and his son Jaden were seen performing together was back in August last year on J. Cole's tour. The former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star gave the crowd some major throwback feels when he got the crowd on its feet for Jaden's hit "Icon".
