Buro 24/7 Singapore Weekly Playlist #47: The Coachella Edition
The call of the desert comes every year, but Coachella and I can never agree on timing for attending it to be a real possibility. Still, I constantly check out the lineup to see if it's on point and truth be told, the organisers always do a good job of keeping it varied enough, presenting some of today's most relevant acts while maintaining the balance between niche and commercial. It's no wonder that Coachella holds the world record for the highest sales and most number of tickets sold of any music festival.
I picked 10 acts playing at the festival that I'd like to catch and a song off each of their latest albums, all released either this year or last. Sufjian Steven's album, Carrie & Lowell was written to find closure over his mother's death and though that comes from a painful place, songs like All of Me Wants All of You still give a feeling of hope. One of my best nights at the club this year was thanks to the DJ and producer, Mano Le Tough, so I had to include one of his tracks, Generations. I like A$AP Rocky's trippy underwater groove, L$D, and although I'm not a big fan of M83's newest album, Junk, I still enjoy the band — so I've picked Blastmaster, one of the better songs on the album. Wolf Alice's rock-tinged pop is infectious and their track Bros reminds me of a summer adventure, the kind you'd take enroute to Coachella.
