Best New Music of the Week: Little Mix, Bebe Rexha, Meghan Trainor and more

Not A Pop Song by Little Mix
Little Mix is back with a single that's Not A Pop Song. The song is a teaser to the quartet's sixth album, Confetti, which is slated to be released on 6 November. This single is the group's first release since their summer track, Holiday. The refreshing new track channels a dance pop beat, with immense group vocal layering when it comes to the chorus. The catchy song is intended to be a teasing jab to the group's former boss and X Factor judge, Simon Cowell. With lyrics that suggest the music mogul treated the group as 'puppets on a string', the group makes a statement with the pre-chorus verse, 'I don't do what Simon says'. The quartet will also be embarking on a tour supporting the Confetti album in 2021.
My Kind Of Present by Meghan Trainor
It's not December yet — and Christmas is still two months away — but you can get into the Christmas spirit with Meghan Trainor's new single, My Kind Of Present. The single, released alongside Trainor's rendition of the Christmas classic, Last Christmas, will be part of her forthcoming Christmas album. Titled A Very Trainor Christmas, the album is set to be released on 30 October. My Kind Of Present was co-written by Trainor and her two brothers, Justin and Ryan Trainor. The Christmas bop is a classic pop offering filled with jazzy jingles and harmonisers. Along with the Christmas gift, Trainor also dropped another surprise: the singer is expecting her first child with husband and actor Daryl Sabara. It's certainly Trainor's kind of present, alright.
Shot in the Dark by AC/DC
AC/DC is officially back after a four-year hiatus with a prelude single, Shot in the Dark, to their new album, Power Up. Set to be released on 13 November, the album sees the return of members Brian Johnson, Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd, as well as the addition of Stevie Young, who took the place of founding member Malcom Young after he passed on from a long battle with cancer and dementia. The album is seen as a 'tribute to Malcom' with the Highway to Hell rockers promising that it'll be full 'AC/DC style'. Shot in the Dark, the first single off the album, opens with a simple guitar motif before transitioning into the familiar 'DC stomp that fans will recognise. The single definitely serves as a noteworthy introduction we can expect from the rockers and their highly-anticipated album.
Baby, I'm Jealous by Bebe Rexha (feat. Doja Cat)
Bebe Rexha has made a comeback with a red-hot single titled Baby, I'm Jealous. The singer, who dyed her locks a fiery-red for the single (by herself in her bathroom, no less), first teased the song on Instagram with a promotional picture along with TikTok breakthrough star, Doja Cat. The up-tempo track sees electro beats tiered with a hip-hop melody and Rexha's voice. Doja Cat jumps in for a rap verse in the latter part, before closing out the song alongside Rexha. The track is rumoured to be on Rexha's next album, but the singer has not released a confirmation thus far.
stay by Bryce Vine and Cheat Codes
Bryce Vine has joined forces with EDM trio Cheat Codes to release the euphoric offering, Stay. The collaboration is one between old friends, with Vine and the trio having been friends for almost 10 years. An introspective track, Stay features Vine's soulful vocals stratified with Cheat Code's signature smooth production, which will certainly make you want to stay listening to the song. The joint single looks to spread positivity and encouragement, while reminding listeners to hold on to the good times and memories, especially in the current climate.
