Best New Music of the Week: Lana Del Rey, Daniel Caesar and Justin Bieber, and more
Loud and clear
White Dress by Lana Del Rey
Hypnotic indie-pop queen Lana Del Rey is finally back with a new single after leaving fans waiting for what felt like, well, forever. The haunting lullaby titled White Dress features Lana's angelic voice and dreamlike whispers; a song about lost innnocence that provides perspective on a celebrity looking back at when she was working as a waitress in her teens pre-stardom. As she belts out lyrics like, "When I was a waitress wearing a white dress, Look how I do this, look how I got this" in her airy breathy tone, fans can't help but draw the parallels between the song lyrics with Lana's own life story, since she was also a waitress too before her ascent to fame.
Peaches by Justin Bieber, Daniel Caesar and Giveon
It seems Justin's on a roll, dropping hits one after another in 2021. This time, we're blessed to witness a holy trinity level collaboration between Justin Bieber, Daniel Caesar, and Giveon. And the meaning behind Peaches is the cutest thing ever, as the lyrics are actually his way of expressing love to his wife Hailey Baldwin. As Justin sings, "I wanna wrap my arms around you, baby, never let you go. And I say, oh, there's nothing like your touch, It's the way you lift me up", we can't help but swoon. So the song's a bop, and it's sweet too? Sold.
Selfish by Nick Jonas and Jonas Brothers
Here's an upbeat, feel-good song that we know you just wouldn't be able to resist breaking out into dance (or at least, groove along) to. But then again, we didn't expect any less from the Jonas Brothers. The lyrics will also have you gushing if you heard your lover tell you things like, "I wanna be selfish, selfish for you and not for me, I wanna be loveless, selfless I want all of you for me."
House Party by Super Junior
Way to make a comeback. Super Junior's newest single House Party has just dropped several days ago and has already made its way on the trending chart and raked up over 10 million views. A cause for celebration indeed. While the title of the song sounds really apt — yes, perhaps it's best we only party at home now— the song actually revolves around the concept of putting aside emotions to have a good time. As this is the 15th anniversary of the mega-popular boy band, fans were also stoked to be treated a visually stunning MV.
Going dumb by Alesso, CORSAK and with Stray Kids
This is a week packed with star-studded collaborations for music, as Swedish DJ and producer Alesso has decided to gather Chinese singer and producer, Corsak, as well as popular K-pop group, Stray Kids, for his newest hit. Talk about a multicultural collab as we bridge K-pop, EDM and C-pop all into a single trac. With a catchy chorus and sick beats, this is one unexpected collab nobody saw coming but we're so thankful materialised anyway. Add this to your playlist ASAP, it's a bop.
