Best New Music of the Week: Cardi B, Demi Lovato, Sia and David Guetta and more
Loud and clear
Every week, Buro. selects the best new music of the week so you don't have to deal with the white noise.
Up by Cardi B
You know you've been eagerly anticipating Cardi B's next single ever since her smash hit WAP broke records and the internet seven months ago. Voila — her new record is finally here, and it doesn't disappoint one bit. As the first single off her upcoming album, Up is a catchy earworm with infectious rap lyrics like “if it’s up, then it’s up, then it’s up, then it’s stuck". And we all wish we had Cardi's confidence as she raps about her sexual conquests and immense wealth, further cementing her status as a boss b*tch. It's also the perfect jam to bid adieu to traumatising 2020 as the music video quite literally begins with Cardi stepping on a man laying on a grave which reads "RIP 2020" while decked out in velvet bejewelled lingerie. Um, yes queen. We'd let her step on us anytime.
Slow Down by Tabitha Nauser
In direct contrast to the title of her first 2021 single, Tabitha Nauser ain't slowing down anytime soon. Singapore's R&B x Pop Diva has been changing up the local music landscape ever since her very first single Bulletproof way back in 2017. And she's done it again — this time with a groovy R&B tune served with a side of EDM. Tabitha's sultry vocals, coupled with the infectious lyrics "I'm so sorry, do I know you?" and that killer beat drop right before the chorus seriously makes us want to hit the clubs again. And though we can't exactly do that right now, there's no stopping us from grooving along to this sick track in our abodes.
Floating Through Space by David Guetta & Sia
We know David Guetta & Sia's 2011 iconic anthem Titanium is still your go-to karaoke song today. After all, who could get over that masterpiece? Well, guess we're all in for a treat, 'cos the power duo is back for yet another musical collaboration 10 years after Titanium changed our lives. And get your mics ready, because Floating Through Space is an uplifting emotional ballad that's sure to strike a chord with all of us. With reassuring lyrics like "You made it through another day, you did it, let's celebrate" and "Today baby, remember you're okay, we're all floating through space", belting out this song is sure to get us through the worst of days. Add in David Guetta's sick beats and Sia's impressive vocals, and you just know that we're in for an eargasm.
What Other People Say by Demi Lovato and Sam Fischer
Our girl Demi Lovato is back at it again with another power play — for our ears, this time. The ever-confident songstress sings of not caring about what people think and not conforming to societal expectations in spite of the white noise in What Other People Say. And she's not kicking a** alone — the song is performed in collaboration with Sam Fischer, who was actually the one who penned this meaningful track with a deep empowering message. Well, can't say we're surprised seeing as he had already given us a preview of his talent with his breakout hit This City.
emily by Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler
Power couple Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler once again prove that they don't just make good lovers, they also make good duet partners. This one's a slow breakup ballad guaranteed to tear your heart out. Their calming voices blend together melodiously as they belt out emotional lyrics like, "And in spite of it all, you're still my everything when we're nothing at all, come to think of it all you are the centerpiece around which I revolve." BRB, getting our tissues ready as we sob while relieving our memories of love lost. Welp, yet another new masterpiece of a song to add to our breakup playlist alongside Driver's License.
