Therefore I Am by Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish returns to her carefree and brash side in her latest single, Therefore I Am. After the orchestral darkness from her theme song for the delayed James Bond film franchise, No Time To Die, and the experimentation of jazz and neo-soul in July's my future, Eilish's latest offering sees her return to her signature dark pop beats. As always, the track is produced and co-written with Eilish's brother, Finneas. Besides featuring her trademark whispery alto atop a familiar glitchy bassline, Eilish also incorporates French philosopher René Descartes famous 16th century quote, 'I think therefore I am', into the lyrics. Accompanying the groovy drop is a music video that was shot on an iPhone throughout. Directed by Eilish herself, the video sees the Grammy-winning singer living out every teenager's dream by dancing around an empty Glendale Galleria mall and helping herself to snacks and drinks along the way. Eilish is set to perform the track for the first time at the American Music Awards on 22 November, but in the meantime — Siri, replay Therefore I Am.
Where the Poison Is by FINNEAS
The devil works hard but Finneas works harder. Besides having dropped two new songs this year, the Grammy-winning musician has not only been working on sister Bilie Eilish's new singles, but also producing music for artistes the like of Justin Bieber, Halsey and Demi Lovato. Despite all that, Finneas still managed to find time on his schedule to show fans Where the Poison Is — it's at the current White House, if you're wondering. Released just shortly after news broke that Joe Biden has been elected the new President of the United States, the track takes aim at current incumbent Donald Trump. Said to be written and ready a while ago, the song was a surprise release for fans as Finneas was patiently biding his time. Featuring a faint electric guitar riff with scathing lyrics aimed at Trump, the track was announced with Finneas appropriately tweeting "You're fired," quoting Trump's The Apprentice catchphrase.
Fly Away by Tones and I
Tones and I is back with bigger dreams in her new single, Fly Away. The Dance Monkey hitmaker noted that the latest track was all about "chasing your dreams, reaching your goals and the realities that comes with it". The bright melody with electronic beats is juxtaposed by the lyrics, which reveals the singer's previous mental health struggles. "Being a busker, I obviously had bigger dreams. However, this song is inspired by the way I thought I would feel versus the way I actually feel. I think that's very powerful, at least to me," Tones and I stated in a press release. "It's about genuine happiness and what we think we need to have happiness versus what we actually want. The truth is we only ever want anything because we think it will make us happy, but it's never that simple."
Holiday by Lil Nas X
Lil Nas X puts his own spin on festive tunes with his new track, Holiday. The first solo single since 2019's debut EP, the song is produced by Take a Daytrip, who last collaborated with Lil Nas X on hit bop Panini. The new release contains an infectious trap bass and lyrics, familiar trademarks of the rapper. The music video accompanying the track sees Lil Nas X in a futuristic world donning on a glitzy Santa outfit, and even features a cameo by actor Michael J. Fox who reprises his character of Marty McFly from the Back to the Future film series.
Be Somebody by Dillion Francis and Evie Irie
Record producer Dillion Francis has joined forces with rising singer Evie Irie for his empowering new single, Be Somebody. The track sees Francis' production work take form in the shape of distorted guitar riffs and shimmering, spunky beats. Australian singer-songwriter Irie lends her soulful vocals over the production the amplifying anthem. "Growing up people always thought my dreams were a joke. It pushed me that much harder to prove them wrong. So this song is an ode to them," Francis wrote in a social media statement. "But also shout out to the people that did believe in me all along the way, I wouldn't be here without you! Hopefully this song inspires you to get at it and be the somebody that you want to be."
