Benedicta Foo for GOJEK: Buro. Singapore Driving Playlist #203
Ride my car
As a content writer at GOJEK, part of my job is to make sure our driver-partners are equipped with the knowledge to be road-ready. Sometimes, this means creating fun things like driving playlists (we did one for Christmas last year too).
Very few things are as important as creating the right mood for a good ride. The car is a sacred space where anything goes: shameless pop music, 80s love ballads, folk music with ample beats and a banjo, and everything else that floats your boat. Our playlists often have songs for all times of the day — upbeat tunes for the mornings, chill ones to cruise to in the afternoon, and soothing ones to drive home with.
Taken from Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (truly one of the world's most underrated rom-coms), "After Hours" by We Are Scientists captures all the magic and tenderness of a late night long ride. Our marketing manager, Berenice, swears by "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen because it's easily the best way to kick-start a carpool karaoke sesh with your friends.
The pacing for "San Luis" by Gregory Alan Isakov is a little different and slower. Isakov is known for creating soft, infinitely vast songs about the universe. I love him, especially for road trips across quiet landscapes out of town. "Where Are Ü Now" by Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber is very reminiscent of my calls to and from drivers during my day-to-day commutes, really. (Try not to make your drivers wait, friends!)
