Poppy Flora Studio's Sarah Lim: Visual Questionnaire #21
Full bloom
There's a new kid on the Dempsey block this September. Previously housed within The Summerhouse on Park Lane, Poppy Flora Studio will soon inhabit its very own 2,800 square feet multi-purpose concept space called This Flower Haus.
The space will bring to life Poppy Flora Studio's founder Sarah Lim's vision of promoting floral artistry. Besides a cold room that keeps the flowers looking their best, the space plans to host dyeing and arrangement workshops. It will also be available for rent.
"Creatives are welcome to practice and develop different art forms, such as floral artistry, painting, fabric dyeing and pottery through our many workshops", says Sarah Lim, a former advertising executive and creative director of This Flower Haus. "The Haus will always be impeccably styled according to the 'seasons', or according to the vibes our clients wish to create for their special event. It will always be changing, like the seasons, but always beautiful."
Your greatest inspiration for floral arrangements: My inspiration is from Mother Nature. Mother Nature inspires me with the magic and beauty she offers. Nature is unpredictable, in the same way, life is too. Looking into the vast jungle, I often feel enchanted and magical.
The country with the best flowers and landscape that you've visited and appreciated: Iceland
The most memorable bouquet you've created
The most challenging arrangement that has been requested at Poppy: Creating flowers for Sarah and Charles' wedding was a real treat, even though, it was a joyful challenge. The couple wanted a legendary wedding with unicorn vibes. Back then, it was Spring and there were so many amazing flowers that were perfect for the palette.
The couple had no restrictions, so we imagined a floral treatment along the narrow aisle in church at The St Vincent De Paul to liven up the space. We created this giant walking aisle with so many interesting textures and multi-coloured unique flowers along the pews and extending down the entire aisle. A wonderfully natural arch was created too.
One artist who you would love to collaborate with: British installation artist Rebecca Louise Law
Somewhere you wish you could exhibit or sell your flowers: I would love to exhibit my flower art and conduct demonstrations at the Istana and SAM.
Your top tip to keep flowers alive for longer than usual: Tender loving care is all you need. The flowers can feel it.
An unrealised project you wish to complete sometime in the future: I just realised it in the form of This Flower Haus.
Your favourite vase: Different types of flowers require different vessels for displaying them at their very best, which means you can never have enough vases. I don't have a favourite vase. I must have at least one beautiful and bright vase that can be left on display even without any flowers in it.
The most underrated accessory to use in an arrangement: Chicken wire, a humble grid used for fencing chickens
Best meme to encapsulate your relationship with flowers
This Flower Haus officially opens on 31 August. It is located at 9A Dempsey Road.
