Buro 24/7's London correspondent Will King chats with stars Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain and director Ridley Scott of The Martian, out now in theatres

You've heard the joke. How many millions of American taxpayers' money are wasted on saving Matt Damon? Just a year short after retrieving him from the ice planet in Interstellar, Damon is back in the big screen this year with his role as botanist Mark Watney in The Martian. He stars in an ensemble cast which includes Jessica Chastain (who also starred in Interstellar), Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Sean Bean and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Director Ridley Scott — the head honcho behind adventure epics American Gangster and Prometheus — created Mars from a stretch of desert in Wadi Rum (which was also where he shot scenes in Exodus: Gods and Kings), Jordan. To reproduce the copper sky of Mars, Scott had to use floating dust effects.

Watch the video above to find out more on the cast's take on space tourism, and just how different The Martian is from Interstellar.

The Martian is out now in theatres.
