Illustrator Natalie Kwee: Visual Questionnaire #5
Handrawn
A self-declared "professional moonlighter", Natalie Kwee wears many hats indeed. An architect by training, she previously worked for world-renowned architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group in New York. Kwee still does architecture and design consulting on the side while running her site, Festive Folks. It allows people to create their own customised illustration of anyone in three easy steps and sends the one-of-a-kind artwork framed and gift-wrapped to their doorstep. As one part of the illustration duo 8EyedSpud, she most recently completed an 8.5m mural for Chope's office. The duo is currently busy with an ongoing illustrated book that's dedicated to their shared love of man's best friend.
It's pretty impressive for someone who became an illustrator by chance. It was while working on her architecture thesis in 2013 that Kwee opted out of doing actual, scaled technical drawings in favour of drawing by hand. Rather than focusing on a fixed drawing style, Kwee injects wit and humour into her work, as evidenced in our most artful Visual Questionnaire to date, with all questions answered through Kwee's own original illustrations.
