Filmmaker Jasper Tan: Visual Questionnaire #10

Singular vision

Text: Tracy Phillips

Chances are, if you've watched some of Singapore's most well-known artistes' music videos, you've seen Jasper Tan's work. Going by his artist moniker, Vadbibes, the alternative filmmaker and producer has collaborated with likes of Gentle Bones, Sam Willows, Yung Raja, Tabitha Nauser, Sam Rui, and most recently, Charlie Lim on his song, "Zero-Sum", which was shot in Tokyo. It was an early love for music and Tom Welsh's directing that first got Tan into the business of making MVs seven years ago. Initially concerned about maintaining his unconventional creative style, Tan only ventured into shooting commercials two years ago with his first ad for Lazada featuring a rapping aunty, which quickly went viral. More work has followed since for other brands such as Goldheart, G-Shock and HUGO's recent tribute to the local music scene to name a few.

Self-taught and candidly sharing that he has learnt everything off YouTube — Tan typically handles filming, editing and producing. Find out the inspirations behind his trippy, off-the-wall video direction in our latest Visual Questionnaire.
