#WomanCrushWednesday: Daisy Ridley
The Force Awakens
Her full name is Daisy Jazz Isobel Ridley, and she was born in Westminster, London in 1992 — making her 23 this year.
Music video moments
Ridley starred in English grime musician Wiley's music video for Lights On, which premiered in 2013. Decked out in street wear, she plays a woman who helps her partner make it big in music — she even has a few lines in the beginning, middle and end of this mini-film.
Her role as protagonist Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is her first ever appearance in a feature film. "Star Wars is a movie of discovery. I thought it would be great if there was an opportunity for audiences to meet these characters and not feel like, 'oh it's her from that thing,'" commented director J.J. Abrams in an interview with AOL.
Not a fan
After six Star Wars episodes, Ridley wasn't a fan of the films. In fact, in her role in the seventh, she saw her nonchalance as an advantage. "'I had seen the original ones, but I wasn't a huge fan, so stepping into this I think that really helped me," she explained. "I didn't feel like I was trying to fit in. Like I had a role to meet or a place to go into, I just wanted to do a good job."
The newcomer only made her Instagram debut in August this year, despite entering showbiz in 2013. Her most endearing post? When she discovered her face on a stamp issued by UK's Royal Mail, along with her droid BB-8.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on 17 December in local cinemas.
