#ThrowbackThursday: Jurassic Park

Dino destruction

Text: Varsha Sivaram

With the release of Jurassic World in cinemas today, we can’t help but reminisce about the film that started it all

Hold on to your butts — this throwback will take you back around 65 million years.

Jurassic World hits the big screen in theatres today, and we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than to catch its famed predecessor, Jurassic Park. Released back in 1993, the oldie but goodie casts us back to a time when neon tights and baggy sweaters were all the rage.

We'll admit that the last decade or so might have suffered from dinosaur overkill. From sequels to books and theme park rides, the Jurassic Park brand has been squeezed for content from all sides. Yet, there's something about the original film that continues to charm. Whether it's seeing Jeff Goldblum in his prime, or looking back on some truly tragic CGI, we're all for catching Jurassic Park just one more time.

If your nostalgic side is kicking in, we recommend leaving the DVD at home and catching the iconic dinosaur flick in theatres. Indie cinema The Projector is having a Steven Spielberg retrospective this month, and Jurassic Park is a part of it. There's only one screening left, so book those tickets soon.
