'The Twilight Zone': Watch the creepy trailer for the reboot of the iconic sci-fi series hosted by Oscar winner Jordan Peele
Last month, Oscar-winning director of Get Out (2017) Jordan Peele brilliantly interrupted the snooze-inducing Superbowl midway with a strange one-minute teaser for the reboot of the sci-fi anthology series, The Twilight Zone. The clip showed no actual footage. Instead, it showed Peele strutting about the vacant Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a black-and-white suit, whispering unsettlingly before finally walking into a door and disappearing.
This week, CBS dropped the first trailer, and it looks to be — dare we say — freakier than the original. In a minute and a half, the trailer manages to squeeze in all the makings of a terrifyingly good time: an eerie soundtrack, repeating numbers, a missing dog, some sketchy facial expressions, some creepy old men, an old doll washed ashore, a whole lot of existential statements that no one has answers to and some references to psych-thrillers The Shining (1980) and Black Mirror.
From Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to Queer Eye, reboots are having a moment right now. In this instance, the series will carry the same name, anthology format and retain that iconic show tune. While everything zips pass so fast in the trailer without giving much away, it does provide glimpses of the star-studded cast: Adam Scott, Tracey Morgan, John Cho, Kumail Nanjiani, Taissa Farmiga, Allison Tolman and Jacob Tremblay are all set to make appearances in various episodes throughout the show.
This isn't the first revival of the cult TV show though. Created by respected American screenwriter Rod Sterling, the series first aired between the mid-1950s and 1960s and has been reimagined twice since. See if you can find the nuggets of reference to past plotlines in the tense trailer below.
