Above and beyond

We know Chris Pine as the fast-talking Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot, but you're about to go "Pine nuts" at these three musical screen moments from this unlikely crooner

1. Small Town Saturday Night (2009)
In this straight to DVD release, we see Chris Pine as an aspiring singer who's forced to choose between staying with the love of his life or pursuing his dreams of making it big — your standard heart-wrenching small town film plot. Watch him perform original song Someday Came Today below.

2. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp (2015)
Pine sure loves his reboots. Netflix's reboot of Wet Hot American Summer stars the Star Trek actor as a rock star who moved into Camp Firewood into oblivion, only to be discovered by an undercover reporter, played by Elizabeth Banks. Pine shows off his pipes in one of the final scenes of the series, where he climbs on the roof and performs Higher and Higher, a song that's also in the original film.

3. Into The Woods (2014)
Sure, you've got the likes of Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and even James Corden in the film, but the surprise singing star in this adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's Broadway musical is Pine. See him steal the film's best moment with Agony, a hilarious duet with Rapunzel's Prince Billy Magnussen. Give this man a Tony already.

Star Trek Beyond is showing in cinemas from 21 July. For last week's #ManCrushMonday, click here.
