ANDSOFORTH's '22 Stories': All you need to know about the immersive and interactive theatrical experience
Weird and wonderful
What: Your favourite childhood fairytales come alive in 22 Instagrammable rooms — that pretty much sums up ANDSOFORTH's family-friendly theatrical experience. Each room is meticulousy decked out with props and ambient music to transport audiences into a Disney-worthy wonderland.
Who: Tumble down the rabbit hole in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and end up crawling through a secret fireplace with Alice, have tea with the Mad Hatter and wreck your brains solving riddles with the mischievious Cheshire Cat. Elsewhere, meet the ravishing Princess Jasmine and wander through a typical Middle Eastern bazaar before entering her mosaic-tiled palace. The Ugly Duckling also makes an unexpected appearance in the form of an enormous yellow rubber duck that was plastered with over 4000 regular versions (wtf).
Why: Enjoy the whimsical, wonderful and sometimes off-kilter spirit of each room, and maybe even go a little mad with the cast of characters. As Alice summed it up with the Mad Hatter: "You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret, all the best people are".
Cons: There were lots for the senses to take in, but there were some moments that could have been a teeny bit better. The rooms were not sound-proof so we could hear kids running outside and thunder rumbling in the distance. Props to the actors, though, who were able to improvise and play along with the noise.
It's hard not to get carried away by the in-your-face aesthetics so we found ourselves tripping over bumps on the ground while taking photographs and sliding a tad too fast down Jack's beanstalk. Princess Jasmine's palace was also damaged by the time we got to it. In other words, be careful where you step and keep your hands to yourself.
Waiting in line has never been our forte, so be sure to plan which rooms you would like to visit in advance as showtime intervals are not staggered. Otherwise, you might not get the chance to visit all 22 rooms.
Where: It's located in a bubblegum-pink cavernous warehouse-like space at 200 Pandan Gardens beside Ayer Rajah Community Club.
When: 22 Stories will be opened to the public every Friday (5:30pm-9:30pm), Saturday and Sunday (10am-2pm, 5:30pm-9:30pm) from 1 May to 30 June 2019.
