Getting to know Riverdale's newest cast member, Vanessa Morgan
Season two of Riverdale's back and this time, things are a lot to get more interesting. Enter Vanessa Morgan as Toni Topaz, a Southside serpent, a gang member, and Jughead's first friend who's about to shake things up. Played by the 25-year-old Ottawa native, Riverdale's new arrival will appear in The CW series' season two, which will include an addition of nine more episodes. Morgan's character first appeared in the Archie comic book series in 2012, her iconic pink hair and hints of bisexuality setting herself apart from the other girls.
In fact, Morgan even auditioned with pink hair. Although she auditioned twice for the first season and didn't land a part, she got cast in the second due to how much the decision-makers didn't want to let go of such a talent. You can catch Morgan in My Babysitter's a Vampire as well as the upcoming second season of The Shannara Chronicles in her role as a warrior princess. After landing the role in Riverdale, the actress even received death threats from overly-passionate fans of the show, who were worried that her incoming presence will threaten the on-screen relationship between Betty and Jughead. However, the producers have hinted that Cheryl Blossom's sexuality is something that will be explored further, which seems to be a nod to Toni Topaz's bisexual nature as well. Madelaine Petsch, who plays Cheryl Blossom, is also friends with Morgan off-screen (the two first met during Riverdale screen tests), which makes this possible pairing high on chemistry. Fingers crossed.
