Get to know this Zac Efron lookalike in Stranger Things
1. His first breakout role in Hollywood was in the Power Rangers reboot
If you think he looks somewhat familiar, that's because you've probably seen him in the Power Rangers revival. Though the 22-year-old Perth native didn't grow up watching the television series, he based his character of Jason Scott — the Red Ranger and leader of the Power Rangers — on his own childhood hero, his mother. Aww.
2. He was in Angus & Julia Stone's music video for 'Chateau'
Supporting fellow Aussies, the indie folk brother and sister roped in Montgomery to play the male protagonist in the music video for 'Chateau', a single from their latest and fourth album, Snow.
3. He grew up on sets and around showbiz
Born and raised in Perth, his mother is a first assistant director, while his father is a sound recorder. Prior to joining Power Rangers and Stranger Things 2, he studied at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, graduating in 2015.
4. He has Duran Duran to thank for landing a role in Stranger Things 2
Montgomery auditioned for the role of Billy — the tormented and sexy newcomer — by sending in a tape of himself dancing to Duran Duran's 'Hungry Like The Wolf'... wearing a g-string. In the new season, Billy often shares screen time with his younger stepsister Max, played by fellow newcomer Sadie Sink. Jack Nicholson's role in The Shining inspired his portrayal greatly.
5. He's a dead ringer for Zac Efron and younger versions of Rob Lowe and Robert Downey Jr.
The resemblance is pretty much uncanny, with Montgomery even having a Lowe-esque mullet in Stranger Things 2. With piercing blue eyes, a charming charisma and some serious swag, the actor has the potential to become a household name thanks to both his talent and looks. Even Stranger Things 2 executive producer Shawn Levy has been quoted saying that Montgomery "was genetically engineered to be a heartthrob."
