Domestic Objects and Duduk are two of the over 150 independent brands at Boutique Fairs Singapore coming soon in March

Remember when reading bedtime stories didn't mean scrolling through Facebook comments?

They say a digital detox is the new luxury, but it can be pretty hard to tear yourself away from a screen if it's within reach on your side table. But with the popularity of alternative lounging options (think hammocks and bean bags) on the rise, we suggest another solution to literally close yourself off from the world — a teepee.

It's slightly smaller than a tent, yet big enough to contain yourself, and yourself only. Or perhaps a book you've been setting aside because you just didn't have the time. Or a colouring book you received for Christmas. Either way, a teepee's a great way to relive your childhood or feed any hippie fantasies that have been fuelling somewhere in your nomadic mind.

Founded by Sarah Jagger, Domestic Objects makes teepees that are great for children and adults alike. At a height of approximately 167cm when standing, it's just the right size for an adult to climb in for some old-fashioned fun. Since they're based in both Singapore and Vancouver, your teepee will arrive with poles installed, and will also be accompanied with a padded mat base and two pillows. There are two windows on each side, and Velcro door ties for some privacy.

For something more rustic, opt for teepees by Indonesian brand Duduk. They stand on bampoo poles at a slightly taller height of 180cm. Accented with batik, each teepee includes a pocket for storing books, diaries and the like.

The teepees make a charming addition indoors, and are a great alternative to outdoor furniture. Accessorise yours with bunting flags, luxe throws and some candles — we recommend the ones by local candle-makers Let's Stay In in the scent Beach Bonfire, that's reminiscent of campfires by the beach — think hints of sand, sea spray, jasmine and smoky firewood. Their blend of apricot, coconut and soy wax candles burn responsibly by using wax that burns clean, is eco-friendly, sustainable and carbon neutral. They're also pretty cute to look at, and will appease the animal-fan in you: Each candle is topped with a gold animal — we especially love the ones with dinosaurs.

Pick up a teepee and candle at Boutique Fairs Singapore, which brings together some of our favourite indie brands: Arete Goods, Carrie K., Kala Pata and By Invite Only.
