Artist Yang Er Tan: Visual Questionnaire #16
Cult vision
What started out as a nickname amongst her friends at university has become a full-fledged business for artist Yang Er Tan when she incorporated Yangermeister Studios in January. Known for her collaborations with Narelle Kheng of The Sam Willows (recently art directing and shooting the visuals for Kheng's solo single "Outta My Head"), the self-taught, multi-disciplinary artist is hoping to bring her artistic practice to a larger commercial world.
After graduating from Nanyang Technological University's Wee Kim Wee School of Communications in 2016, Yang's early work on music videos such as Jasmine Sokko's "Hurt" with director Martin Hong and The Sam Willows' "Keep Me Jealous" got her noticed. The latter winning her Best Visual Art Director at the major South Korean music awards ceremony, Mnet Asian Music Awards. Her next art direction and production design gig is on a long-form TV series based off Michael Chiang's play "Mixed Signals", that's directed by Beatrice Chia and set to air on Channel 5 and Toggle later this year.
Asides from commercial work, Yang successfully debuted her largest art project yet: the multi-sensory art installation 'ASMR Wonderland', as part of Sentosa Island Lights festival last December. Her next solo exhibition is slated for the end of the year and explores the theme of loneliness. She dreams to have a studio in both Singapore and New York.
