#FirstClassFriday: Loewe leather bowls
The Bowls Project
Leather... moulded and sculpted by hand, submerged in water using a traditional Spanish technique honed by third-generation artisan José Luis Bazán (hailing from the small town of Benaocaz), to create fluid lines and unconventional shapes.
Ochre... rust, ash and uranium yellow. The rich mineral colours, and modern designs, adapted from celebrated 20th century potter, Lucie Rie.
Evoking... the codes of pottery onto leather, the underside of each bowl is embossed with two seals: The letter 'J' for creative director Jonathan Anderson's name; and the modern, mirrored insignia of Loewe's anagram.
With... three sets of 50 unique bowls in various sizes, The Bowls Project is an ensemble that plays with scale and proportion — a harmonious marriage between archaic methods and new ideas — that elegantly blurs the boundary between sculpture and design.
Exclusively... exhibited in select Loewe stores in Madrid, Milan, Paris, Tokyo and Beijing.
