The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Fondation Louis Vuitton presents a multidisplinary selection of over 200 art works in celebrance of the iconic building's expansion. Dating back from MoMA's founding in 1929, expect a range of works that explain the birth of modern art through trends such as American abstraction, minimalism and pop art. Remember how Cristóbal Balenciaga introduced designs like the baby-doll dress and sack hem, and propheted the way women dressed? Now, you can trace his influence at London's Victoria & Albert Museum. Though small, this exhibition is enough to mesmerise you with Balenciaga's work, from a full-length lace evening coat from 1964 to a multi-layered fuhschia ballgown. Understand how his Spanish roots made an impact on his designs, and find out the weights used in a hem — through the use of X-rays. Also — before summer comes to an end, you might want to get some hat-spiration from 20 of the house's headwear that will be showcased at the exhibition, including the prolific spiral hat from 1962. If art is a treat, then this exhibition flaunting Christian Dior Couture is a sumptous one. Featuring over 300 garments spanning between 1947 and 2017, see also the works from the designers who have played key roles in shaping Dior's legacy, such as Marc Bohan, John Galliano and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Highlights include Christian Dior's influences, insights into the house's atelier workrooms, the ever imcumbent accessories and behind-the-scenes paraphernelia such as documents and photographs. If you've been contemplating whether to book that trip to Morocco, there's nothing holding you back now with Yves Saint Laurent's newly opened museum in Marrakech. The permanent 450 square meter space flaunts a 130-seater auditorium, a cafe, bookshop, and research library with over 5,000 books covering topics including fashion and Arabic history. It's not what the museum holds that's amazing as well; the architecture is gorgeous to a fault. Bricks and patterns line the exterior of the building, while luminous textures hug the walls inside like a luxurious couture jacket — perfect to get your Instagram-worthy shot.
