Best celebrity candles and collaborations: Kacey Musgraves, Gwyneth Paltrow, Drake…
Smoke 'em out
If there ever was a subtler, worldlier rendition of a celebrity fragrance, it would take the form of a candle. You see, celeb perfumes are typically known for undertaking the flashy route; well-adorned vessels harbouring saturated scents that best encompass a high-octane personality. Candles, on the other hand, are a lot more versatile than that. They are personable without being too intimate (therefore making great gifts for a wider variety of people); often marketed as gender-neutral; while also effortlessly invoking feelings of hygge in an abode, a space treasured more than ever amidst a pandemic.
It's a good thing, then, that our favourite personalities have caught on and developed many a votive for our olfactory pleasure in 2020. From Harry Styles to Kim K, here are the ones to know about — and add to your stash — once they've been restocked. Was there any doubt that these bad boys would contain as much star power as their creators? Yeah, we didn't think so either.
Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop x Heretic This Smells Like My Vagina Candle
Ah, the controversial candle that broke the Internet. Admittedly, everyone did turn up their noses at this when it first launched, but then quickly changed their tune upon first whiff. Paltrow's punani apparently smells like geranium, bergamot, and ambrette seed aka seduction and sophisticated warmth. Are feminine hygiene companies taking notes? Will this be the bar that vaginal washes have to live up to? Only time will tell.
Kacey Musgraves x Boy Smells Slow Burn
This sultry, spicy candle has been sold out since it first dropped in February this year; a testament to its visual vibrancy conveyed via notes of black pepper, tonka, and raspberry. Get in on this by putting your email down on the (mile-long) waiting list. In the meantime, listen to the track it is named for to grasp the "scentiment" of this fragrance "about pausing along the way to relax and enjoy exactly where you are right now."
Drake x Better World Fragrances Candles
Granted, these bad boys haven't been released to the public just yet, but we've heard enough about them that we think they deserve a spot. Drake Candles first made an appearance in July of this year, with many an NBA player receiving candles hand-labelled with their nicknames. Neat — as are the five scents available: Carby Musk (spoiler alert: which smells like Drake); Williamsburg Sleepover; Muskoka; Sweeter Tings; and Good Thoughts.
Kim Kardashian's KKW Fragrance
It's not a trendy celebrity venture unless a Kardashian has attempted it in some form. Kim K takes the plunge with three winter candles under her fragrance line. Frosted Pine is touted as the fresh and luminous pick, Spiced Oud the sultry option, while Vanilla Cream is for 'em fans of sweet, creamy fragrances. We'd be remiss not to point out that her sister, Kylie Jenner, has her own candle too, though we don't hear about it as much compared to her highly buzzed-about skincare line.
Harry Styles Adore You Candle
This limited edition candle is a part of the singer's official merch, and is emblazoned with a drawing of the singer clasping his hands together in prayer. The impressive artwork is paired with an elongated vessel that embodies Styles' unique aesthetic — a great find for anyone looking to impress even the most experienced of candle connoisseurs.
