Still shopping in the supermarket for your shampoo and conditioner? Here's why you should be splurging on Kérastase's scalp-targetting Specifique range

Your hair is like a plant that you tend in a garden. It needs good soil and sufficient care to grow strong and healthy. And if you've got a thinning pate or even less than lustrous tresses, you'll know that caring for your hair is worth every penny. But good hair starts with a healthy, balanced scalp — or the aforementioned proverbial soil for your plants. With this is mind, Kérastase redeveloped its Specifique line which focusses on the scalp, so that ones hair looks good. By treating the scalp as specifically as skincare ranges treat the skin, the brand has developed a range of five shampoos, a scalp masque as well as specific treatment products to treat any combination of problems.

Aminexil Black
The silicon-free range of shampoos can be combined with the masque to cure and treat any range of unsusual problems. For example, if you have a tight or itchy scalp, you'll want to use the Bathe Riche Dermo-Calm (for dry hair) or Bathe Vital Dermo-Calm (for normal to combination hair). And if oiliness on the scalp and roots is a problem — and who doesn't have this issue in our weather — Bain Divalent is your answer. The Masque Hydra-Apaisant, meanwhile is a renewing gel-cream that is massaged into the scalp to hydrate and nourish it. Treatment products include spray-ins like the Cure Anti-Chute for hair loss as well as the revolutionary Aminexil Black Cure that actually protects against hair loss and greying.

Cure Anti-Chute
And if you're the kind who splurges on regular facials, how about treating your scalp to a much needed 'facial' as well? The Kerastase Double Scalp 2.0 ritual is a must-try for problem or itchy scalps, with a cure for anything from dandruff to hair loss. The 45-minute bespoke ritual includes a double scalp cleanse, soothing massage and an intensive cure that is sprayed on with a Micronizer — this works like an air brush for a precision spray. You'll also get to experience the exclusive Clarisonic professional brush that was developed for use on the scalp — talk about a thorough cleansing experience. You'll emerge not just with the usual silky, bouncy locks, but with a lighter, deep cleansed and less tight feeling in your scalp as well.

From $39 to $390 for the products and from $198 for the Specifique rituals. At selected salons.
