Dior has a new lipstick texture that's breaking boundaries
What's your flavour when it comes to lipstick? A matte-sheer hybrid in a liquid form, a water stain or perhaps a slim crayon? There really is a lipstick for every mood, whim and fancy, but it seems like makeup brands are nowhere near finished on their neverending quest to devise the most ingenious texture. It seems to us that foundations and lipsticks are where most of the makeup innovation budgets go to.
The newest lipstick offering by Dior the Ultra Rouge Dior looks like an ordinary-ish lipstick at first glance, but actually has a unique factor. It wears like an ink, but feels like a normal lipstick. Says the brand's director of the formulation laboratories, “We wanted to go even further with the idea of combining the two eternal opposites of staying power and comfort. Thanks to years of research and in-depth scientific studies, we managed, in fact, to identify a polymer which, when combined with a plant oil, offers both comfort and deep hydration, along with 12-hour wear. All without any tightening or drying sensation.”
The result is a revolutionary formula that does it all: Hydrates, stays on, looks luminous and has a high-pigment, semi-matte finish. Think of it as the Mr. Perfect of lipsticks. Says the brand's image and creative director of makeup, Peter Philips, "Today [women] are used to high pigment lipsticks with staying power, even if that means less comfort. Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum they want light-as-air, weightless colour. This lightness is possible with inks, although it often comes at the expense of colour impact and comfort. Ultra Rouge squares the circle and provides a different experience for every woman who loves the magic of makeup, comfort and sophistication."
The new innovation also means that there are more colour possibilities, thanks to the tattoo-like formula. Says Philips, “Because the formula acts as an overprint, like an ink tattooing the lips and like an extremely weightless coloured film, it enabled me to develop new, highly saturated and luminous shades. Like a painter with a new colour palette.” With 26 shades, expect stunningly rich reds, deep burgundies, fresh fuchsias and everything in between.
